Hello folks. It's been a bit. Nigeria doesn't let you breathe easy does it? I do hope you have been taking it jeje in spite of everything.
We are still on Sapa: Unemployment and looking at various ways unemployment affects us or those we know. In my last posts, I looked at how unemployment can happen to anyone as well as the various circumstances under which unemployment can happen.
We will continue by looking at the effects of unemployment. An unemployed person is already going through a lot emotionally, mentally and psychologically and does not need the added burden of others judgement. Many people do this knowingly and unknowingly.
How? In several ways:
- Comparison: Comparing the person's situation with that of some other person
- Insinuating that they are lazy and/or unproductive
- Making off hand comments e.g. 'But you have skills', 'You could have been working at so and so place by now' or 'You could have been at this level by now'
- Constant barrage of criticism
- Mental, emotional and psychological manipulation that might lead to drastic actions
